JOBS IN CANADA FOR GRADUATES AND STUDENTS

International students in Canada have a unique opportunity to work while studying. This allows them not only to partially pay for their education but also to gain valuable experience that will be useful to them in their future employment. The student has the right to work under the following conditions:

1) To work on the university campus up to 24 hours a week, you must:

– study on a full-time basis (full-time)

– study at a public higher education institution (university, college, CEGEP), or a private higher education institution operating under the same regulations as the state one.

– have a valid study permit

– you can work on campus from the first day of study

2) For off-campus work up to 20 hours per week:

– study on a full-time basis (full-time)

– study in an academic program for more than 6 months

– have good academic performance (GPA not lower than 2.0)

– study at a public higher education institution (university, college, CEGEP), or a private higher education institution operating under the same regulations as the state one.

– have a valid work permit and study permit

– During the official study holidays, the student has the right to work full time.

3) To work off-campus during the semester of a paid internship (CO-OP term)

– study on a full-time basis (full-time)

– have good academic performance (GPA not lower than 3.0 or grades not lower than C +)

– have a valid work permit and study permit

– the internship should be an integral part of the curriculum

– the internship should not exceed 50% of the duration of the entire program

In addition to working while studying, foreign students, or rather graduates of Canadian universities, have an even more unique opportunity – to work in Canada after graduation for up to three years. Graduates are entitled to receive the so-called ” post-graduate work permit “. The duration of such a work permit depends on the duration of the completed program:

Program duration

Term of a work permit

Less than 8 months

Permission not granted

From 8 months up to 2 years

For a period equal to the duration of the program

From 2 years

3 years

To be eligible for a study permit, you must meet the following requirements from Citizenship and Immigration Canada:

– Complete a program of at least 8 months

 – Be a full-time student

 – Graduate from a Citizenship and Immigration Canada-accredited institution of higher education

 – Apply for a work permit no later than 90 days from the date of receipt of the diploma. We

especially note that the above does not apply to students of the correspondence department ( part-time), language programs, as well as universities that are not accredited by the Ministry of Migration. Our company works only with accredited educational institutions!

While the state guarantees the student the right to work, successful employment depends directly on the student himself. An educational institution, as a rule, can teach a student to correctly write a resume, and give advice on passing interviews, but cannot guarantee him a job. The student must independently contact potential employers, present himself correctly at the interview and create a favourable impression of himself.

Educational institutions give their graduates some simple but effective tips that will help in their job search: participate in volunteer events and summer internships – this will help you expand your resume and show yourself as an energetic, active and enterprising employee!

Employability rates of college and university graduates in Canada- are consistently high. In a number of programs, it reaches 100 per cent in the first 6 months after graduation. Educational institutions publish statistics on the employment of their students.

Good luck and perseverance in your job search in Canada!
